Across Canada from East to West - 7th February 2013

AN entertaining commentary which accompanied member Alan Eastaugh’s photographic presentation of a trip ‘Across Canada from East to West’ was enjoyed by Kyrle Probus members recently. The idea of the Canada trip was born on a holiday in Egypt the previous year, Alan explained.

Having flown into Toronto, they explored the city, before taking a trip to Niagara Falls and a very wet boat ride on the appropriately named Maid of the Mist to the foot of the Falls. Back in Toronto, they took the elevator to the top of the CN Tower, once the tallest building in North America.

From Toronto they travelled by rail along the edge of Lake Ontario to Montreal, where they visited the Notre Dame Basilica. From Montreal they went on to the walled city of Quebec, full history and fine buildings.

They then flew across to Calgary in Alberta, where they visited Fort Calgary, with its museum exploring the history of the native Indians in Canada. Moving on from there, they caught their first view of the awesome Rocky Mountains, as they traveled on to picturesque Banff.

This concluded the first part of Alan’s talk on his trans-Canada trip and members look forward to the second part with much anticipation.
